Today, you can find an app or online service for everything. Prescriptions are no different. For years now, online solutions have been offered for those with Erectile Dysfuntion, hair loss, and birth control to name a few.

All the benefits of telemedicine - ease of accessibility, access to great physicians, and the convenience of getting your prescription delivered to you have been out of reach for Canadians looking to get on PrEP.

That is quickly changing.

It’s become easier than ever to get PrEP online

But is it really worth it? Some things make sense to get online - electronics, books, and other miscellaneous items you can’t get in store. Is PrEP too personal?

As it turns out, there are a lot of benefits to getting PrEP online. Great support from a team with expertise in the field, free shipping right to your door, appointments on your terms and timelines, and no traveling in those cold Canadian winters. In this article, I am going to discuss the three major benefits of getting PrEP online.

Before I go further into the benefits, if you know you want to see your family doctor for anything medical including PrEP, that’s no problem! Check out our Is PrEP Right for Me? article on how to get PrEP from your family doctor.

For those continuing on, let’s discuss the three benefits of getting PrEP online.

1. Convenience

One of the best things about getting PrEP online is how convenient it is. You don’t have to come into the doctor’s office (especially useful in a pandemic) and you don’t have to go to the pharmacy to pick up your PrEP.

Instead, you can fill out our PrEP questionnaire and have a short phone consultation with a Freddie provider to get your prescription, which we can send confidentially to your door.

The best part? You save time whenever you want to get a refill. That’s a lot of trips saved from going to the doctor’s office.

2. Accessibility

Online PrEP is more accessible for you, both physically and financially.

From a physical standpoint, sometimes it’s hard to get your PrEP if you live far away from your doctor’s office, or don’t have a family doctor at all. By getting PrEP online, all you have to do is log on and start the process. Only a few lab tests are needed.

Online PrEP is often better financially as well. At Freddie, we will work with you to get you the lowest cost PrEP we can based on your province (PrEP is free in many provinces) and insurance coverage. Our team of experts will work with you to make sure you are paying the least amount possible out of pocket.

3. Patient Support

One awesome benefit you get through Freddie is our patient support. Family doctors and other online services tend to focus on a variety of different areas when it comes to medicine. We only do PrEP.

What that means is that we are really knowledgeable when it comes to PrEP. We know its history, the best practices for our patients on PrEP, and everything to do with pricing in Canada. Also, since we only focus on PrEP, that gives us a lot of freedom to focus on you.

When you choose Freddie, you’ll get reminders on bloodwork, easy access to our care team to discuss any questions you may have, and always a safe, welcoming environment. We are here for you.

How to Get PrEP Online

If you’re considering getting PrEP online after hearing about the benefits, here is how you can do so:

1. First find a provider. In Canada, we recommend speaking to your family doctor (make sure they prescribe PrEP as not all do) or speaking to a Freddie provider (we think we’re pretty great!).

2. After filling out a short questionnaire and completing a phone consultation, you’ll then complete some basic lab work. Your lab results will be reviewed by your expert care team at Freddie, and if PrEP is safe for you to take, you will get PrEP delivered confidentially straight to your door! You can also pick it up at your local pharmacy.

3. After 30 days, you will need to get some additional lab work done to ensure your body is tolerating PrEP well (which it is by the vast majority of people). After the 30 days mark, you will need to continue lab work every three months. Your Freddie care team will walk you through the entire process.

If you think Freddie can help you, why not fill out our medical questionnaire to book an appointment? You can do so for free. Get started on PrEP.
