When we founded Freddie in Canada back in 2020, we knew firsthand how the healthcare system was failing the LGBTQ2S+ community – the long waits, the judgment, the barriers that shouldn't exist when it comes to protecting your health.

We had a clear mission: make HIV prevention and sexual health care more accessible, affirming, and stigma-free. We wanted to create a better way to deliver PrEP and sexual health services. 

And today marks a huge milestone – Freddie now provides PrEP care in all 50 US states (including DC).

The need for accessible PrEP in the US

We first brought Freddie to the US in 2024 because we saw an opportunity to make an impact. In 2022, there were 31,800 estimated new HIV infections, with two-thirds occurring among gay and bisexual men. People who inject drugs also face significant HIV risk.

We know that PrEP is an incredibly effective tool. It reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by about 99% when taken as prescribed, and by at least 74% for people who inject drugs. That’s why we set out to reduce barriers to PrEP for underserved communities.

Building a network that works for you

From day one, we’ve worked alongside sexual health organizations that know and serve their communities well, like LGBT Life Center, Edge New Jersey, Resource Center, and EPIC.

These partnerships make it possible to reach more people who need PrEP, while also saving money for organizations that provide essential sexual health services to their communities. To date, Freddie has helped partner organizations save over $10 million.

Our latest partnership is with the American Sexual Health Association (ASHA), a nonprofit dedicated to STI prevention through information, support services, and public policy activities. ASHA’s national reach has made it possible for us to provide PrEP and DoxyPEP to all 50 states in the US.

What it’s like to get PrEP through Freddie

  • Discreet delivery: If PrEP is prescribed for you, we'll ship it discreetly to your door at no cost. If you prefer, you can pick it up at a local pharmacy.
  • Seamless refills: You can request prescription renewals in advance, or we'll reach out when it's time. Our team helps keep you protected.
  • Sexual health specialists: You’ll get access to clinicians who specialize in HIV prevention and sexual health. No more explaining PrEP to doctors who aren't familiar with it.
  • Privacy and flexibility: We create an affirming space to discuss what's best for your health and life, without judgment. You can take appointments from home by video call, phone, or message.

And here's the best part: over 90% of Freddie patients pay $0 for PrEP. Your consultation, at-home lab test, and prescription delivery are always free with us.

For eligible patients, we can also prescribe DoxyPEP (alongside PrEP) to boost your STI protection.

Looking ahead: What’s next for Freddie

Reaching all 50 states is an important milestone, but there's still more work to do. 

One exciting development on the horizon is Yeztugo, the new 6-month PrEP injection that provides an alternative to daily pills. As these new options become available, we'll be here to help you access them and figure out what works best for your lifestyle.
